  • The new outdoor seasons are fast approaching and we can get back to shooting on our lovely field surround by sheep. The up coming competitions have been updated and show a few of the events that are coming. So book in and have a go they are great fun and a great way to enjoy a day's Archery. (22nd February 2010)

  • On behalf of the committee I would like to wish all our members the very best for the New Year, Happy New Year Everybody !!!! (1st January 2010)

  • The Committee would like to wish all our members a Happy Christmas. Have a great holiday and we hope Santa brings you all what you wish. Although there is no help session this month we may see some of you down the field in the week between Christmas and the New Year. (21st December 2009)

  • Apologies to everybody who turned up for our second help session yesterday. Due to the extremely strong wind and stronger gusts we decided that we could not run the session on safety grounds. We will however included the items that had been requested in the next session. (29th November 2009)

  • I have been asked to remind members about two upcoming events, firstly our next help sessions will be held on Saturday 28th November starting around 10.00am. The other is a little bit further away and that's the Hert's County Indoor Championships. A few members are booked in already but if you would like to join us and come and have a great day then entry forms need to be put as soon as possible. If you not sure about the shoot then please ask either Janice or Phil and they will talk you into it!!! (18th November 2009)

  • Half a dozen members attended our first help session this morning. Subjects covered in this session included both correct shooting form and proper equipment selection. We also carried out some high speed video work for a couple of members which produced some amazing results. So if you missed out this session the next one will be held on Saturday 28th Nov between 10 and 12 in the morning. (31st October 2009)

  • Please remember that we have a Help Session in the morning between 10 and 12ish on Saturday 31st October on the Field, of course weather permitting. So if you have any questions about shooting or equipment setup then come along and we will try and answer all your questions. (16th October 2009)

  • A very big thank you to all the members that turned out today to help give our shed a major clean out and to repair all the damaged stands. The shed now looks great so lets all keep it that way. The code on the lock has now been changed, so if you have not paid your fees you will not be sent the new code. (3rd October 2009)

  • Please note that with immediate effect the club will ONLY have the following days as designated target days. Indoor Season - Thursday & Sunday, Outdoor Season - Friday & Sunday. If you want to improve your handicap and classification then your rounds must be shot on these days and done so under the GNAS rules of shooting. (2nd October 2009)

  • Just a reminder that members still need to send in their subs for the coming year. As of this coming weekend the code for the shed will be changed, so unless you have paid you will no longer have access to the equipment. (28th September 2009)

  • Just a quick note to say members can now shoot indoors if they wish thanks to Silver Arrow. Details can be found on the flier here. The Archery Warehouse have also arranged for indoor shooting facilities which can be used by club members and you can download details here (28th September 2009)

  • Membership renewals are now due for the coming year. Can you please try and get them in promptly to help out new treasurer and to ensure there are no issues with getting GNAS insurance cover for anybody wishing to shoot. The club membership form has been updated and you can get it here. (15th September 2009)

  • You will all be pleased to hear that at today's AGM we filled both the Secretaries and Treasurers positions which means the clubs future is safe. I would just like to say a big thank you to the members who volunteered. More details will follow shortly together with a report from the club champs. (5th September 2009)

  • Please note that as we are unable to field a full team for the Summer League match against Hinxworth we have forfeited the match thus you will not be required to turn up on Sunday afternoon at the away match and shoot. (13th August 2009)

  • Calling ALL club archers, the Club Outdoor Championships will be held on Saturday 5th September 2009. Please note - the club champs are only open to club members, this is not an open competition. The rounds will be a Long National/National/Junior National depending on you class of shooting. Assembly will be at 12.00pm with Sighters at 12.15pm. A copy of the notice is here. We would also appreciate any members who can turn up early to help with setting up the field. If you won a trophy last year can you please ensure you return it before the day of the club champs, many thanks. Also the Club AGM will follow on from the club champs. (12th August 2009)

  • The next Newsletter is now available and you can download it using the following link - August News. We are still in need of members who would be willing to stand for election to the committee. If the two principal roles are not filled then the club will not be able to operate which would be a great loss for its members. If you would like to stand then please contact any of the current committee. (4th August 2009)

  • Due to various reasons both the Club Secretary and Club Treasurer will not be re standing for election this year. Therefore we will be looking for members to fulfil these important roles on the Committee. If you would like to stand for one of these positions then please contact any member of the committee and let them know. (21st July 2009)

  • This is just a reminder to all club recurve archers that the next league match against Stortford is on Sunday 26th July, its at home again. Assembly is at 1.45pm but we would appreciate members getting to the field much earlier to help in setting laying out the field. Also don't forget we have to provide high tea for our guests so please can you bring something along to help out. If you have any questions please contact Paul Hanson. (20th July 2009)

  • Please note that on the weekend of the 11th & 12th of July 2009 the field will not be available for members to shoot on. The field may also not be available on the Friday before due to setting up. This is due to the Archery Warehouse hosting the 2009 National Disabled Championships, if you would like to help then more info can be found here. (1st July 2009)

  • The opening match of the Hert's summer league will be shot on home ground on the 30th May 2009, starting at 11.45am. If members would like to turn up a little earlier to help setup then that would be very appreciated. Supporters are also very welcome.   • Paul Hanson has very kindly agreed to run the recurve team for the Hert's Summer League for the club, so a big thank you to him. So ALL you recurve archers can you please let Paul know if you would like to join in. It does not matter what level of experience you have as its a very relaxed fun event. Its only once a month on a Sunday afternoon and the first 3 months are at home. Paul has asked that anybody who wants to join in can you please drop him a line on the following e-mail address - Paul Hanson

  • We are still in urgent need of somebody to run the summer league with respect to the recurve team. The compound and longbow teams have been sorted but it would be a great shame for the club to have to withdraw the team due to lack of interest. The summer league is a great social shoot which happens once a month so please contact us ASAP if your interested. (6th May 2009)

  • We have now received our schedule of fixtures for the Hert's County Summer League which you can take a look at using the following link Hert's 2009. For the first time we have teams entered in all bow styles which is great, however we are looking for a volunteer to run the league this year. If you think you would like to have a go then please contact either Fergus or Phil. The summer league is mainly shot for fun which makes it a nice social event. (20th April 2009)

  • The club has now replaced the stolen metal detector with a good quality unit. This will not be left in the shed on a day to day basis which will reduce the possibility for it being damaged etc. We have created a Lost Arrow Report which you can fill in with all the details should you not be able to find an arrow. Leave this in the shed and when the metal detector is next on the field we will search for the arrow. If found it will be left in the arrow tube in the shed with the arrow report attached. Blank arrow reports can be found in the shed, alternatively you can download one via the information page. (13th April 2009)

  • Following a number of incidents when we have found club equipment being used by non club members we have reluctantly taken the decision to lock the shed on the field. So as from today members will need a code to gain access to the equipment. Our Equipment Officer has sent an e-mail out to all members today detailing the code and the instructions for use. This code will be changed on a regular basis and we would ask you not to share it with anybody that is NOT a member of the club. (5th April 2009)

  • Please note that this Sundays Recurve Frostbite Round for the Herts Winter League is cancelled due to the lack of interest. (26th March 2009)

  • WOW !! what a fantastically generous lot you are, we managed to raise £150 from our Red Nose Day event. So a VERY BIG thank you to everybody who turned up for making the evening a great success. Also a big vote of thanks to those who have given up their own time to put the evening together. (12th March 2009)

  • As a lot of our club members are now shooting in field events we have added a new section to our web site called "On The Peg". This section will contain shoot reports and personal achievements by our club members. (12th March 2009)

  • PICK YOUR NOSE DAY - Details can now be found for this coming weeks Red Nose Day event by checking out the following two links, Raffle and Tariff. Remember we want to raise as much as we can for charity so please come along and help us. (7th March 2009)

  • Calling ALL club archers, the club indoor championships will be held on Thursday 2nd April 2009. Please note - the club indoor champs are only open to club members, this is not an open competition. Details are on the flier which you can download using this link. Please let us know ASAP if you intend to shoot as we would like to try and get an idea on numbers before the event as space could be an issue. (2nd March 2009)

  • Just an update to say our Red Nose Day event will be held on Thursday 12th March at Adeyfield School. Further details will be posted when they are available, just remember the evening is all about raising money for a very worthy cause. (2nd March 2009)

  • The club now has a new newsletter editor. Alison Evans has very kindly agreed to take on the role, so if you have any stories or news that you would like to see in the newsletter please contact Alison and she will be more than happy to consider it. (25th November 2008)

  • Our site has been down for a little while due to a change in server which will give us more space and facilities in the future. However instead of a nice smooth change over, we have had a few technical problems which have finally been resolved. Please accept our apologies for the down time and for not bending our ears to much. Following a few days of making sure everything is indeed ok, we will be updating the site with all the news you have missed and there has bit quite a bit. (17th November 2008)

  • A reminder to all club members that fees are now due, so if you have not renewed yet could you please send your sub's into Nigel as soon as possible. We would also appreciate it if anybody in not renewing could they please let us know as we can then amend the club records. (14th October 2008)

  • Silver Arrow are running a Halloween Trick or Treat fun shoot at Adeyfield School on Thursday 30th October 2008. More info can be found on the flier. (13th October 2008)

  • Calling all longbow archers - The indoor postal league starts in the next couple of weeks.  Anyone interested in competing this season, must enter 2 scores a month – Portsmouth rounds.  Please see the email from Fergus about it, or ask Janice about it when you see her. If you want to join in, we’ll need £5 and your BLBS number.  Shoot against the whole country and see where you get placed by the end of the season. (6th October 2008)

  • The Committee would like to extend their thanks to all of the members who attended the AGM which was held following the Club Outdoor Champs. (29th September 2008)

  • Indoor Shooting has now been arranged via Silver Arrow Archery at Adeyfield School in Hemel Hempstead. Full details are on the application form - Indoor 2008. The club is also trying to get an alternative night at last years venue in Wing but as yet this is still in negotiation. (21st September 2008)

  • The club now has its own page of merchandise on the Silver Arrow webstore. There are a number of items available including our superb club shirts which can be purchased online.   • Beacon Archers AGM - The club AGM will be held on Sunday 28th September 2008 following the club outdoor championships. The meeting will be held in the Archery Warehouse UK/Silver Arrow range.   • Here are some Indoor Competitions we have highlighted between now and Christmas which you may like to participate in. This list will be updated as new event details become available. If you would like to enter any of them please get your money and details to Fergus Bradfield before the closing dates. If you miss these deadlines you will need to see if there are any spaces yourself and then put in an entry form. (12th September 2008)

  • Congratulations go to Sue Matthews who is now the holder of two County Longbow Records - Great shooting Sue. (12th August 2008)

  • The next league match is Sunday against Hinxworth. We will be on the field from around 12ish setting up, so if you can come and lend a hand that would be great. Don't forget we also need to provide tea for our guests, so bring some extra goodies for all to enjoy. And keep fingers crossed for the weather. (8th August 2008)

  • HELP WANTED !! - This weekend coming is the Edlesborough Carnival which we will be running an archery have a go. Thus we need as much support as possible for our local village event. These are great fun and and a great way to promote the club, Oh and its also raises funds which we can use to buy equipment etc. If you can help setup then we will meeting at the unit at 9.00am or you can join in a bit later on the village green from around 12.00 mid day.   • The next league match is next Sunday and its our first match at home, so its an ideal time for members who may like to try competition shooting to join in as these match's are very relaxed and social. If you would like to add you name to the list of members already shooting please contact either Mike or Phil. (22nd June 2008)

  • Just a last minute reminder that we have our friendly match tonight against Westcott. The round we will be shooting is an Australian National, the rules will be explained at the start of proceedings so don't worry if you can't find anything out about it. We will also be finishing off the evening with a fish and chip supper with various alcoholic beverages. (20th June 2008)

  • With immediate effect the club has designated that all days are target days. This is after reviewing the shooting calendar which was restricting some members who wanted to achieve classifications. (19th May 2008)

  • Please be aware that between 6.00pm on Friday the 16th May 2008 and 7.00pm on Sunday the 18th May 2008 we will not be able to shoot on the field. This is due to the FITA tournament being held by the Archery Warehouse UK. (12th May 2008) Update- Buckland Archers have very kindly offered us the use of their field on Sunday 18th from 12.00pm.  If any member wishes to shoot please go to the Buckland Archers web site for directions.   • Please be aware that a Safety Zone has been marked out on the shooting field. Please DO NOT set any targets up inside this zone. (27th April 2008)

  • From the beginning of May the club equipment shed will have a combination padlock. This has been put on to restrict non club members using and abusing our equipment which we would have to replaced at our expense. (27th April 2008)

  • Calling ALL MEMBERS !!! The club have a number of fund raising events coming up which will provide much needed funds for extra and improved resources for the club. We need YOUR HELP to make these events as bigger success as possible. A list of dates will be appearing in the next newsletter which will be appearing soon together with all the contact information. (20th April 2008)

  • From the 1st May there will no longer be any indoor shooting available. Thus to maintain the number of designated target days we currently have, it has been decided to make Saturday a designated target day instead of Thursday. (20th April 2008)

  • Results for both the Open Warwick and the Siege are now available from "On The Line". All of us at Beacon Archers would like to thank all those who turned up over the two days, especially on the Sunday for the Siege. It is truly appreciated that people made the effort in spite of the weather, so again a big thank you to you all. Thanks must also go to all our club members who worked so hard to make the two days a great success - you all know who you are. But I have to say a special thank you to Peter who kept us all in line and on track. You are a General among Generals. (7th April 2008)

  • A new section has been added to the web site "Behind The Line" which will cover all the fun and crazy things that happen to club members. So if you have any amusing stories or photos which you think fit the bill, send them to us and we will try and get them up on the web site. To start us off we have had an interesting photo sent to us via an anonymous contributor - so go take a look. (29th March 2008)

  • We have had an urgent message from the Villagers in Edlesborough which would indicate that we have a spy in our mist who has been busy, please remember "Lose Talk Cost Lives !!!" If you suspect anybody just talk to one of our soldiers and we will deal with them in the appropriate manner. However at this point in time there is no change in the start time for the campaign. Victory or Death !!!!!!

  • Just a quick reminder to all those shooting in the club champs next week. It will be a Portsmouth Round which will be shot under GNAS rules and yes that means green and whites for the night. Sighters will be at 7.15pm and strict timing will be maintained. (21st March 2008)

  • Finally GNAS have sent through some of the membership cards which have been processed for the club. We are however still waiting for the rest which we hope will be sent through shortly. Kevin will be sending out the cards (well sticky labels) in the very near future, and he is hoping to be at the club champs to hand them out to anybody present. (19th March 2008)

  • Just a reminder to everybody that the Club Indoor Champs are only two weeks away, so get your entry forms back to Sue to avoid disappointment. There will also be NO normal shooting on the evening of the club Champs. (16th MArch 2008)

  • Following the huge amount of time and effort put in by our new equipment officer (Peter Morgan) who has re-organised the shed. Somebody in the last week who used equipment has just thrown everything back in when finished. We would ask members to keep the shed tidy and to put everything back in the correct place. If members do not keep the shed tidy then it WILL be locked and access will have to be controlled. So for the benefit of everybody - PLEASE KEEP IT TIDY !!!

  • The gallery has now been updated with some additional photo's in both the Frostbite and Shed Upgrade albums. (3rd March 2008)

  • Following on from shooting this month's Frostbite round a number of members stayed on and helped to upgrade the club shed with a racking system etc. The shed now looks superb, so check out the photo's in the gallery. Very many thanks to all who gave up their afternoon to lend a hand. So please do not let the shed get in a mess otherwise we will have to set the equipment officer on you. YOU have been warned !!!   • Sue Matthews added yet another National title to her name when Sue competed in the 2008 EFAA Indoor Championships, winning the Ladies Longbow Gold medal. So this now makes our Sue a Double National Champion, many congratulations. Now for the hatrick - sorry NO pressure. (21st February 2008)

  • Alison Evans has become the Hert's County Ladies Longbow Champion following the county indoor. Well done Alison !! (21st February 2008)

  • A date for the diary is Thursday 27th March 2008. This will be when the Club Indoor Championships will be held. The round will be a Portsmouth and it will be shot under GNAS rules. Assembly is 7.00pm. (15th February 2008)

  • Well the Valentines evening was great fun and a big thanks to Sue for arranging the evenings special round. I don't think I have shot 60 arrows so fast in a long time. The evening also just confirmed how rubbish I am at gambling as I came a very chairman last. So congratulations to all the winners and thanks for sharing the spoils of victory. (15th February 2008)

  • Following this months Frostbite round we will be needing volunteers to stay on and help carry out some much needed maintenance and upgrades to the equipment shed in preparation for the outdoor season and remember "Many hands make light work". (12th February 2008)

  • valJust a reminder that as Thursday is the day of Love we will be having a themed indoor evening with some special prizes.(11th February 2008)

  • Competition results are normally reported in OnTheLine, but for this piece of news I will make an exception. Our very own Sue Matthews won the Ladies longbow at the recent Westcott 3D indoor shoot. However we subsequently found out that this was the GNAS National 3D Field Indoor competition, which resulted in Sue becoming the National Ladies Champion for 3D Indoor Field. I would like to pass on Congratulations from myself and from the rest of the Club - WELL DONE Sue !!!!!!!! Peter Grand also did well getting the bronze in the men's longbow.   • Just a quick reminder that indoor shooting at the school starts again on Thursday 10th January (2nd January 2008)

  • The first round of the Hert's Winter Frostbite league was shoot today in the bitterly cold wind. Luckily we managed to warm up after with some lovely soup and cake. There is a link to a few photos from the day on the gallery page taken by Peter Morgan. (25th November 2007)

  • The Archery Warehouse UK have managed to arrange for indoor shooting facilities at a school in Wing. Thus we now have an indoor venue to use on a Thursday Evening between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
