Westcott Archers Indoor 3D - 9.01.10
A magnificent shoot as always. They (Westcott Archers) work hard to put on a good show and they certainly exceeded expectation this year with their Killer Whale and moving Penguin! Joyce, Peter and Janice were Beacon’s competitors, and they shot 2 new club records and Joyce and Peter brought home a gold and silver medal respectively. Nice shooting everyone.
Whitemark Bowmen Marked 3D - 28.12.09
Probably the last shoot of the year, it was certainly one of the coldest, but Joyce, Pete, Fergus & Janice wrapped up, tucked away a sherry and mince pie and ventured out into the chilly woods at White Mark.
Joyce shot her new bow (she's only had it two weeks) and put 200 points on her last Marked 3D shoot! Stunning shooting Joyce! Fergus (compound), Peter (flatbow) and Janice (flatbow) all shot new club records. A really good days shooting all round which made it an exceptional day out :-)
Celtic Harmony 3D Open Shoot - 29.11.09
Unfortunately Pete and Joyce didn't make it to this one due to ill health, however Janice braved the heavy rain and the clever course, to bring home a silver medal and a new club record. And if Paul has anymore of that juice he had in that hip flask, he can bring it to the next shoot :-) A good day, despite terrible weather. and we do this for fun???
Avalon 40 X 3D - 25.10.09
A beautiful sunny day and everyone remembered to put their clocks back and turned up on time :-) A very challenging course was laid, and all three unstoppable competition junkies rose to the challenge. Everyone shot well, and 3 new PB's were shot. Good shooting everyone (again).
Company of Sixty Racoon Shoot - 23.10.09
The 'will try anything once' group thought it might be fun to try a night shoot. They underestimated the craftyness of Co of Sixty. By a lot! The journey there was long (M25 in rush hour on a friday night!) and the entrance to the unmade road that lead in to the woods was badly signposted so they didnt find it for quiet some time! 19 targets set up in the woods - not far from the main path, the woods are pitch black! The pegs had a flashing pumpkin or skull beside them so they really stood out, and the targets were all from 20-35 feet away and lit by dim lights, which occassionally went out when they were shot... The scoring was off the scale. Have a look at the Field Club Records page to see what I mean. Three new club records, which considering Joyce's fear of 'anything that moves in the woods', Pete's scaring himself when shining a light into the woods and finding a full size crocodile with big teeth staring back at him, and Janice's fit of giggles, was amazing :-) Another type of shoot that all three of them would highly recommend.
Bucks County Field Champs - 11.10.09
Pete, Joyce and Janice (and Fergus) took part in this years champs, and although they were scattered across 3 different groups, only seeing each other at lunch time, this didnt stop them shooting their socks off :-)
Pete won Gold Men's Barebow, Joyce won Gold Ladies Barebow and Janice won Gold Ladies Longbow.
Great shooting all round!
EFAA National Champs 2009 - 12-13.09.09
The rabble set out for sunny Norfolk to shoot the two day event which is the EFAA Nationals this weekend. 120 archers set off into the woods in brilliant sunshine on the saturday, with the weather changing to a very chilly day on the Sunday. Fergus shot well on the Saturday, but had to retire from Sundays shooting due to a pulled muscle in his bow arm. Peter shot two very respectible rounds, and Joyce and Janice managed 3 new PB's between them, with Janice suprising herself by taking 2nd place with her longbow. Nice shooting everyone.
Westcott Archers 3D and Big Game - 12.07.09
Guess who went out to the woods again today! You guessed it! It was a good day, with some really well laid out shots, that caused Joyce, Pete and Janice several nightmares when trying to score them. Only Westcott sets up a swine herd where if you hit the piglets you have to deduct 10 points! And a camp: tent, picnic chairs, two 'scarecrow' men, pig on a spit, over a very well made fire... but did they leave it there? Oh No! they then built a tower for us to climb up to shoot the pig! Brilliant as usual. We did pretty well, but Joyce surprised herself, more than us, by bringing home the gold medal with her Flatbow. Well done Joyce.
Jim's Jungle Jaunt 3D x 45 - 05.07.09
What an amazing venue! The wood seemed enormous, and we were very grateful for the protection it gave us from the sun! There was shooting across valleys, and the targets included a fabulous moving eagle, a full size elephant, a deceptively small buffalo which we all overshot :-(, a pack of wolves that we had only 1 arrow at each and all satisfyingly hit all 3 wolves, a shorter than average giraffe, that one of the intrepid trio actually managed to hit with her first arrow from the first peg at somewhere between 60/70 yards :-), a tiger in a tree, that Joyce 'killed' with her first arrow, and the very last shot? A Rhino that we all got on the 2nd arrow, and to top it all Pete stormed past his 500 self imposed goal. Another excellent shoot, and we'll be going back next year if any of you fancy joining us.
Avalon Open 40 X 3D - 28.06.09
The intrepid trio once again ventured in to the woods. The weather was fantastic, and the shots very challenging. It was a two day shoot, but we were only able to shoot one day, however, all three shot new PB's and had a great day out. Hoping to see more Beacon Archers trying their luck at this very entertaining sport :-)
Fleet Ibex Open 40 x 3D – 17.05.09
Joyce, Pete and Janice thought they’d have another go at this fabulous shoot, and two of them managed to beat last months scores, even though there were two less targets, and the weather was a bit aggressive in places! We all agreed this it was more challenging this time – probably down to the muddy hills (that Pete was ‘surfing’ down, and the tall ferns that some of us couldn't’t see over!), and were all very glad of the hot tea at the end of it. 8 hours it took us to complete the course, and we were not the last ones in… and yes, it was a brilliant day out.
Fleet Ibex Easter Open 40 x 3D – 12.04.09
Joyce, Pete and Janice (and I know they aren’t full members but I must mention Alison and Raif – as they are such good company) all headed for Fleet Ibex on a very damp and drizzly Easter Sunday. Going against all that is British, the drizzle stopped as they were walked out to their starting pegs. A fantastic days shoot was had by all, with some really difficult shots proving no problem to these fledgling field archers. Joyce excelled herself and came away with a very respectable bronze medal for Lady Flatbow, AND between us we shot 3 new PB’s and 3 new club records. Well done everybody, but especially Joyce, you were a pleasure to watch today
White Mark Bowmen Precision 3D - 22.03.09
Pete, Joyce, Fergus and Janice once again ventured in to unknown territory this weekend! A 3D Precision round was today’s challenge, and the fact that we came away with 4 PB’s and 4 new club records, with Pete bringing home a gold with his barebow, was only exceeded by the look on Joyce’s face when they put the gold medal for lady longbow around her neck. Well done to you both. Thank you White Mark, it was a great day out.
Celtic Weirdo ROVE - 15.03.09
Joyce, Pete and Janice thought they'd go and find out what a 'Rove' was all about. They first had a chat with Pip Bickerstaffe, which was excellent. Everyone then took to the field to shoot the 'marks'. We successfully shot several countries flags, amongst them the 'yanks' (flag) - one of Beacon's friends actually shot the flag to a huge roar of delight, and earned himself 20 points - well done Roger - and the 'spanish' (flag), we even had a go at the 'scots' (flag). The sun shone and we had a real taste of summer. A fantastic day was had by everyone, and to put the icing on an excellent day, Pete added a silver medal to his personal haul of treasure. Highly recommend a days shooting at Celtic Harmony.
